On Tuesday 18 August 2009, the Minister for Education, Employment and Workplace Relations, the Hon Julia Gillard, presented awards to the winners of the 2009 Ministers Awards for Excellence at a presentation held in Canberra, at Parliament House.
The awards recognise and reward individuals and organisations who make an outstanding contribution towards the training of Australian Apprentices.
Australia is experiencing significant and rapid change including economic challenges, environmental change, technological advancements and an ageing population. To remain globally competitive, we need to ensure we create the learning and employment opportunities to develop the skills that support our workforce both today and for the future. Employing and supporting apprentices and providing opportunities to help people learn new skills and improve their job prospects—particularly during difficult economic times—is critical, not just for individuals but also for enterprises, industries and Australia as a whole.
The Minister’s Awards for Excellence give us the opportunity to acknowledge the outstanding efforts of the dedicated individuals, both employers and supporters of Australian Apprentices.
Skills Australia congratulates the winners, finalists and runners up for helping build a more inclusive, productive, and sustainable future.
