Skills Australia

Workforce Futures Background and Consultation process

In September 2009 Skills Australia released for consultation its proposals for a bold new approach to workforce development in Australia. Submissions closed in November 2009. The final paper, Australian Workforce Futures is expected to be published in February 2010.

The Background Papers

The detailed background papers, went beyond simply planning for future skills shortages, and recommended a broader more multifaceted response from federal, state and territory governments, business and industry to future workforce challenges.

Skills Australia commissioned Access Economics to undertake research and analysis on the future demand for post-school skills and qualifications to 2025. The modelling analyses the supply and demand for future skills against three plausible scenarios. The report finds that there will be a shortfall in the supply of qualifications in all scenarios. The shortfall is most pronounced in 2015.

The modelling provides detailed analysis at the industry and occupational level.
