The Deputy Prime Minister recently announced that the role of Skills Australia would be expanded to encompass the full scope of Australia’s labour market needs, and to give advice on the effectiveness of both the VET and University systems in Australia.
Since its expansion, Skills Australia has been engaging stakeholders in the Higher Education sector and has collaborated with Universities Australia as part of the National Workforce Development Strategy.
On 23 June, Skills Australia and Universities Australia recognised this partnership by the signing of an Memorandum of Understanding setting up a framework for cooperation and information sharing between the two organisations.
This collaboration will allow for greater integration in the approach to workforce development across the VET and Higher Education sectors, ensuring that the advice Skills Australia provides in relation to industry’s priorities for skills and knowledge encompass the full scope of Australia’s labour market needs.
Mr Philip Bullock said, “I welcome the commitment of Professor Coaldrake to work together to promote a learning culture and develop high level skills across the Australian workforce”. Mr Bullock also thanked Dr Glenn Withers for the significant contribution he has made so far on the National Workforce Development Strategy, which is currently underway and due for completion towards the end of 2009.
Skills Australia looks forward to an ongoing collaborative relationship with Universities Australia.
